If you’ve ever tried to mix someone else’s song before, you’ve likely realized that issues that could easily be fixed by choosing a different sound or modifying the arrangement, are no longer easy fixes because the client may not want to change anything. Working as an audio engineer requires a set of skills, and tools, that are well beyond the scope of many music producers and musicians. I think it’s actually beneficial to mix as you produce, and as a producer, you have the massive advantage of having full control over your sound selection and arrangement this will allow you to achieve a quality mix regardless of your mixing ability. There’s a lot of confusion over what constitutes “mixing.” People often mix as they produce, so there’s not always that distinction between the production and mixing process.
